Elon Musk has directed a new attack at James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate in Texas, writing on X on October 31, 2026: "Something seriously wrong with Talarico."
In another post on October 31, Musk wrote: "Talarico wants to open the borders and legalize everyone to gain a permanent majority to end democracy in America."
Musk had also set out a broader warning on October 30, 2026. That post was framed by Musk about Democrats generally, not about Talarico by name. In it, Musk wrote that his biggest concern was that, if there were a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and presidency in 2028, they would make Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate, and would "open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority." In a follow-up post the same morning, Musk wrote: "It would be game over for America."
Talarico has responded to Musk directly. In a post on October 20, 2026, Talarico wrote that Musk was trying to buy the Senate seat in Texas and said: "He's trying to buy Texas. But on November 3rd, we'll deliver a clear message to the world's first trillionaire: Texas is not for sale." In a separate reply to Musk, Talarico wrote: "There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator."
On immigration, Talarico has described his own position in different terms from Musk's summary. At a Texas Senate Democratic primary debate in January 2026, Talarico said: "So what I've said is that our southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a giant welcome mat out front, and a lock on the door."
