First Lady Melania Trump and Louisiana State University have secured $5 million to create a permanent endowment fund that will pay Fostering the Future scholarships for LSU students who experienced foster care, the Office of the First Lady announced on Wednesday — a historic donation that turns the First Lady's foster-care initiative into permanent scholarship money at the university.
The First Lady will travel to Baton Rouge to advance her Fostering the Future initiative with a special announcement at Louisiana State University. During her visit, she will attend the LSU Tigers' game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, where a groundbreaking Fostering the Future campaign will activate across the campus and on the field.
Fostering the Future is the First Lady's initiative for young people who have been in foster care. Because the $5 million sits in a permanent endowment, the fund keeps paying scholarships year after year instead of being spent once — lasting help for students who reach college with no family behind them, giving them a real route to a degree and a start in work.
