President Donald Trump stopped Miranda Devine mid-question on her Pod Force One podcast to correct one word: not "AI" — "SI." Super intelligence. "We're leading in super intelligence — we're leading by a lot," he told her.
It is a renaming the president has pushed for months. His argument is that "artificial" sells the technology short and sounds like a warning, while the reality, as he puts it, is that the United States is ahead of China and the rest of the world in building it — the data centres rising across the country, the chip deals and the investment his administration has pulled in. The name, in his framing, should say who is winning.
For ordinary Americans the race behind the name is the part that lands at home: the build-out means construction and tech jobs in the towns hosting the new data centres, and an American lead in the technology now running everything from logistics to medicine. That is the stake the president keeps pointing to — whoever leads in super intelligence sets the terms for everyone else's economy.
