President Trump closed the door on Bill Maher on Sunday night, in a long Truth Social post that looked back at their second White House dinner and found nothing in it worth repeating. Trump called the HBO host a complete and total loser and a major pothead, said Maher had been drinking at the White House, and told him plainly: don't call anymore.
The dinner had drawn attention because of who else was at the table — Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock joined them — and because Maher, one of Trump's most persistent television critics, had presented the meetings as proof that conversation across the divide was still possible. Trump's post ended that story from his side: he said he would never appear on Maher's HBO show, and he brushed off talk that he is building a swimming pool in the press briefing room, while adding that he is thinking about moving the press.
It is a clean break, delivered in Trump's own words and on his own platform: the dinners are over, the invitation is withdrawn, and the feud that briefly looked like a truce is back where it started — with the president saying the last word.
