A boy was arrested outside Newtonbrook Secondary School in Toronto on Tuesday after witnesses said he tried to enter the school with a gun, and every student inside the building was safe.
Video recorded outside the school shows Toronto police officers detaining the boy at the front entrance, holding him at the glass doors while more officers stand with him, and police cruisers with their lights on lined up along the street outside the school.
Witnesses at the scene said the boy tried to get into the school carrying a firearm, and that police got there quickly and stopped him outside, before he could get in. No student was hurt.
Two things are not yet public. Toronto police have not issued their own statement on the arrest, and it has not been confirmed publicly whether a gun was recovered or what charges the boy faces. He is a minor, and he is not being named.
For the parents of the children inside, the part of this story that matters is the ending: a reported gun scare at a school door finished with a fast arrest outside and every child safe, because officers reached the entrance before the boy did.
