Scott Bessent is following the money — and cutting it off. The Treasury secretary has sanctioned a Hamas financing network accused of using sham charities and cryptocurrency to funnel cash to the group's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.
Treasury says the network raised more than $2 million for Hamas between 2020 and 2026 — roughly $1.5 million of it after the October 7 attack on Israel. The sanctions hit a Hamas military-wing operative in Gaza, two France-based fundraisers, and two charities Treasury says were fronts for the operation.
Bessent's message: Treasury will keep hunting down and isolating anyone bankrolling Hamas. The money pipeline is getting shut down.
