Rep. Tim Burchett is saying out loud what many Americans have long suspected about Joe Biden's final days in office: according to the Tennessee Republican, Biden staffers were taking payoffs in exchange for pardons signed by autopen — and Hunter Biden was directly involved.
The claim, shared in a post now spreading online, raises the stakes far beyond sloppy paperwork. Burchett's allegation is that access to the presidential pardon pen was effectively for sale — and it is fueling calls for arrests on bribery, obstruction, and related charges.
The Autopen Scandal Behind the Claim
The pardon power became a scandal in the Biden White House after it emerged that a mechanical autopen signed many of the clemency orders issued in Biden's final stretch — including preemptive pardons for members of his own family, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and figures tied to the January 6 committee. President Trump has repeatedly argued those pardons are void because Biden did not personally sign them, and the House Oversight Committee has spent months investigating who actually authorized the autopen's use and whether Biden was aware of what was being signed in his name.

Burchett, who sits on the Oversight Committee, has pressed the money angle before — arguing that where there is a machine signing pardons and a small circle of aides controlling it, the temptation for pay-to-play corruption is enormous. His latest statement goes further, tying Hunter Biden directly to the scheme.
The Other Side
Biden has insisted he made every clemency decision himself and that the autopen — used by presidents of both parties for decades — was used only for efficiency, a position backed by a 2005 Justice Department legal opinion holding that a president need not personally hand-sign a document for it to be valid. Democrats dismiss the bribery claim as an evidence-free smear, noting Burchett has not publicly produced proof of any payment. No charges have been filed.
But that is exactly the point Burchett's supporters make: if staffers sold pardons, only a serious criminal investigation will prove it — and the calls for arrests are growing louder.
"It was a cash-for-clemency deal, and that's exactly what I think you're gonna find out."
