Elon Musk is demanding answers over James Talarico's reported two-week absence.
Musk has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the Texas Senate candidate after independent commentators alleged that he spent time in a mental health facility in Ohio while telling the public he had "the flu."
"The Talarico campaign is hiding something big that voters ought to know about," Musk stated.
The allegations have fueled questions about what happened during Talarico's absence and whether his campaign has provided voters with a full explanation. Independent commentators have also pointed to alleged call logs involving a hospital employee, though the claims and their context still need independent verification.
Musk is not the first heavyweight to press the issue. Stephen Miller has been demanding Talarico's medical records, and the controversy keeps drawing wider attention as the Texas Senate race heats up.
Talarico, a Democratic state representative from Austin, is running for the U.S. Senate in Texas — one of the most closely watched races of the 2026 midterms. President Trump has already weighed in on the contest, calling Texas "the line in the sand."
The other side of the debate: critics raise concerns about the privacy of medical information, and seeking mental health treatment, by itself, does not establish that someone is unfit to serve in public office.
With both parties pouring resources into Texas, the questions over Talarico's absence aren't going away. Should candidates be expected to explain extended absences during a campaign, or should their medical privacy remain protected?
