Videos and photos from both stops show sections of empty seats. At Clarksville's F&M Bank Arena, whole areas sat bare during the president's Saturday speech, and at Youngstown's Covelli Centre on Monday, tarps covered part of the arena, with local estimates putting the crowd at roughly 2,500 to 3,000 — about two-thirds of the open seats filled. CNN, the New York Times and others highlighted the footage as a sign of fading energy.
What most of that coverage skipped: Clarksville still drew about 4,500 people into a 6,000-seat arena, in the rain, on a holiday weekend — and some of those empty seats were empty by design. The White House's Rapid Response 47 account answered the Clarksville footage directly:
"Those seats were purposely left empty. Anyone sitting in them would've had their view entirely obstructed by the gigantic press risers in front of them."

And at least one protester helped manufacture the picture. Jeremy Lawrence, a student protesting the Clarksville rally, told the College Heights Herald he had reserved tickets inside the arena precisely so there would be empty seats.
Trump's side rejects the fading-energy framing altogether. He and his supporters point to the energy of the people who did show up, the short notice on some stops, the holiday timing and parking issues, and his earlier insistence that arenas were maxed out. They treat the empty-seat coverage as selective media spin — the same cameras that zoom in on one bare section rarely pan across the full floor.
The sharper question is whether any of this changes the bigger picture. Trump still projects confidence, and the argument from his side is that Democrats are not a real alternative — they are offering policies many voters see as destructive on the economy, the border, crime and energy. With that as the choice, Republicans can still sweep the midterms even if some rally crowds look thinner on camera, because the other side has no competitive offering.
