Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C.-area home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, marking a major escalation in the scrutiny surrounding the Minnesota congresswoman.
Homeland Security Investigations agents carried out the pre-dawn search — reportedly around 6 a.m. — under a judicially authorized warrant secured by the Department of Justice. The DOJ confirmed the operation in a statement: "Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation." The department has not publicly disclosed the full scope of the investigation or announced any charges.
Fox News Digital, citing sources familiar with the matter, linked the search to a criminal fraud investigation into Omar's immigration paperwork — documents reportedly filled out by her late father when she was a child. The development follows border czar Tom Homan's acknowledgment last month that HSI was conducting a criminal investigation involving the congresswoman. "I know things are going on, but I can't give specifics of what's happening," Homan said at the time, adding that elected officials are subject to the same immigration laws as everyone else. Omar has previously denied allegations of immigration or marriage fraud.
Omar, 44, represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, including Minneapolis, and was first elected to the House in 2018 as part of the progressive "Squad." The search is likely to intensify the political debate over accountability and whether elected officials face the same legal scrutiny as everyone else. A search warrant does not establish guilt, and investigators have yet to publicly detail their findings.
One principle remains clear: no public official should be above the law. Americans deserve transparency, evidence, and a fair process as this investigation unfolds.
