U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle could face impeachment if Democrats take Congress — after alleged texts show she asked a donor for $100,000 to pay off her credit card in exchange for help with the Trump administration before her confirmation.
According to the messages cited, Guilfoyle allegedly asked a donor for $100,000 to wipe out her credit card debt, dangling help with the Trump administration as the trade. If authentic, it is the kind of arrangement that ends careers in Washington — or triggers impeachment proceedings the moment the other party holds the gavel.
Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor and longtime Trump ally, was confirmed as ambassador to Greece. The alleged texts date to before that confirmation — meaning senators voted without knowing what was in her messages.
The impeachment talk is conditional: it depends on Democrats retaking Congress. But the threat alone puts a cloud over her tenure in Athens. Every meeting, every negotiation will now carry the shadow of the alleged payoff request.
Her defenders will call the texts unproven and the impeachment chatter political theater. Her critics will say $100,000 for access is exactly the corruption voters sent Trump to drain from the swamp — no matter who is involved.
The White House has not publicly addressed the alleged messages. Whether they are authentic, and who leaked them, are now the questions that will decide whether this becomes a footnote or a full-blown scandal.
One thing is certain: in Washington, alleged texts have a way of surfacing at the worst possible moment.
