Conservative activist Laura Loomer pitched herself on Friday as the next White House press secretary, hours after news broke that Katie Zacharia was leaving the job less than a week after starting. "Hear me out: Press Secretary Laura Loomer," she posted on X at about 2:40 p.m. ET.
She kept going. At 2:56 p.m. she asked, "So you're saying if I dye my hair blonde and I change my name to Kora I have a chance?" At 3:51 p.m. she posted "I'm ready." with an image of her face edited onto long blonde hair.
Loomer also defended Zacharia. "Personally I think people are being unnecessarily cruel to @KatieZacharia. She seems like a nice lady who just wanted to serve the President," she wrote. "She was nervous. It's not a crime... I wish Katie the best... I'm sure he appreciates it and I think Katie had good intentions. Just leave her alone now. The continued dog piling is just malicious. Let her be."
In a second post she argued, "One of the main reasons why people want to be so cruel to @KatieZacharia is because she is pretty and White. White envy and pretty envy are real."
Her pitch drew mockery. Tommy Vietor, a former Obama National Security Council aide and Pod Save America co-host, quoted it with "Do it, sir @realDonaldTrump," and Loomer answered with a salute emoji. Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon, a Democratic Senate candidate, wrote: "You're not his type boo. Hopefully you will stop the racist antics and heal." Loomer shot back: "Girrrl you just need to hook me up with a blonde weave like your home girl Joy Reid and I'll be ready for my first briefing." Later she posted a childhood photo with the line "The plot twist nobody saw coming. I'm a natural blonde."
Loomer is a MAGA activist with a record of influencing Trump's staffing. In April 2025, Trump fired several National Security Council officials after an Oval Office meeting in which Loomer presented a list of staffers she called disloyal. Trump played down her role but called her "a very good patriot" who "recommended certain people for jobs."
Zacharia is leaving after a rocky first briefing on Tuesday, in which she took three questions, and scrutiny over her legal credentials. As ProfiloPolitics reported earlier, Trump said he told her "I'd reconsider," and a White House official said she is "transitioning out."
Trump told Fox News' Peter Doocy on Friday that he is in no rush to name a replacement. Neither Trump nor the White House has responded to Loomer's pitch. On prediction market Kalshi, the top contenders Friday were commentator Scott Jennings, deputy press secretary Anna Kelly and author Elizabeth Pipko.
