Elon Musk is taking aim at Delta Air Lines and CEO Ed Bastian, accusing the airline of letting personal disagreements drive a decision affecting millions of passengers.
The feud flared after reports that Bastian told employees Delta rejected Starlink because "We do not want to be with Elon Musk. Trust me." The remark came secondhand via an aviation account on X, which cautioned the quotes were unverified; Delta has neither confirmed nor denied them.
Musk fired back on X: "He will lose his job over this." He mocked Delta's connectivity — joking the "best way to sandbox an AI is to put it on a Delta flight" — and warned Delta "will lose a lot of customers."
The dispute dates to March, when Delta chose Amazon's Leo satellite service over Starlink for Wi-Fi on about 500 aircraft, with installs from 2028. Bastian says Leo offered better bandwidth at a much lower price — though Amazon Leo isn't operational yet.
What to watch next: whether Delta or Bastian answers Musk publicly — and whether the Leo timeline holds.
