Ken Paxton is turning up the heat on James Talarico, accusing the Texas Senate candidate of trying to distance himself from his own record after being absent from the campaign trail for nearly two weeks.
"He thinks he can lie to Texans and get away with it!"
Paxton is calling out Talarico over his alleged positions on border security, transgender policies involving children, and boys competing in girls' sports, arguing that Texans deserve answers about where he stands. With the Texas Senate race heating up, Paxton is warning voters not to be fooled by campaign messaging — Talarico's record matters more than his promises.
Two weeks of questions
The absence itself has become a story that will not die. Elon Musk demanded answers over the reported two-week disappearance, saying the Talarico campaign is "hiding something big that voters ought to know about." Talarico then changed his story about where he was treated — first an urgent care in Dallas for a flu diagnosis, then only his primary care doctor in Austin. A leaked recording claimed he had been discharged from an Ohio mental health facility; the Lindner Center of Hope denied he was ever a patient there, and Talarico says he has never even been to Ohio. On Sunday, top Trump official Stephen Miller piled on, calling on Talarico to release his medical records if they exist.
The other side
Talarico's campaign says the absence was the flu, points to more than 100 campaign events he held before it, and accuses Paxton of dodging debate invitations himself. Paxton, who pressed the absence at President Trump's San Antonio rally on October 7, says his campaign has spent months trying to organise a debate — and told Fox over the weekend that Talarico keeps running from one.
Paxton's warning stands either way: a candidate's record matters more than his campaign promises — and Texas voters will have the final say.
Never miss a story.
