Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing a total legal nightmare. D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has officially confirmed a second federal investigation into the Minnesota congresswoman — this one into her questionable financial disclosures — on top of the criminal investigation that sent Homeland Security Investigations agents to search her home.
Pirro confirmed the probe when she was asked about the money that appeared and disappeared in Omar's filings — as much as $30 million reported one year, then gone the next — and about the House Ethics Committee giving Omar a pass. Her answer left no room for the House to close the matter.
“It doesn’t matter what the House does. I can tell you that is subject of an investigation as well.”
The disclosure fight has been building for months. Omar's 2024 filing listed household assets as high as $30 million, tied largely to her husband Tim Mynett's ventures — Rose Lake Capital and the eStCru winery. An amended filing then put the same assets below $100,000, which her office blamed on an accountant who failed to account for liabilities. The Office of Congressional Conduct advised the Ethics Committee there was not substantial reason to believe she had reported false or incomplete information, and House Oversight Chairman James Comer, whose committee had demanded the companies' records, was left pointing at the Ethics panel.
Pirro's office is not bound by any of that. A U.S. Attorney investigation runs on federal law, not House rules — and it lands while HSI's criminal investigation, the one behind Monday's judicially authorized search of Omar's Washington home, is still active. That search, sources say, centers on immigration paperwork allegedly completed by Omar's late father.
Omar has denied wrongdoing across the board, calling the scrutiny of her finances a coordinated right-wing disinformation campaign and the search of her home an attempt to target political enemies. No charges have been announced in either investigation. But with two federal probes now confirmed open at once, the Ethics Committee's pass is no longer the last word — Pirro just said so herself.
Never miss a story.
