President Donald Trump used his Monday night rally at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown to deliver a major industrial announcement for Ohio: Cleveland has been selected as the new home of the Department of War’s U.S. Submarine Component Repair Center. Trump called it a big deal that everybody wanted — and he gave the credit to Sen. Jon Husted, saying the senator fought to bring it to Ohio.
The facility is a massive one: 46,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining key parts for virtually all new and existing U.S. submarines. The aim is to strengthen America’s submarine industrial base and its maintenance capacity — the unglamorous backbone that keeps the fleet at sea — while bringing the work and the investment to Cleveland.
“The United States builds the greatest submarines in the world — 15 years ahead of Russia.”

The announcement landed in the middle of a campaign stop. Trump was in Youngstown to boost Husted, who is defending his Senate seat against former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for governor. Husted has made industrial investment a centerpiece of his re-election case, and the president urged voters to keep him in office so Ohio keeps landing federal projects like this one.
The administration has not yet released a construction timeline or a jobs number for the center, and those details will decide how big the win turns out to be. What is already clear is the direction: more of the Navy’s submarine supply chain is being built and serviced on American soil, in the industrial heartland. As Trump put it to the crowd, the United States builds the greatest submarines in the world — 15 years ahead of Russia.
