President Trump is calling out what he sees as a glaring double standard: European countries have continued paying Russia billions for energy, with Trump pointing to $250 BILLION in payments, yet the moment he defends a deal he says could ease price pressures for Americans, the "Fake News Media" attacks him.
Trump argues that the media is quick to criticize his decisions even when he says they put American interests first. His message is clear: America's energy costs and the needs of American families should come first.
"I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE — ALWAYS, AMERICA FIRST!"
The defense comes days after Trump announced an immediate energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, a deal meant to halt attacks on energy infrastructure on both sides. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy backed the move, saying Ukraine supports the ceasefire while awaiting details from the U.S.
But the ceasefire was tested within hours — Russia struck Ukraine's power plants shortly after the announcement, raising questions about whether Moscow would honor the deal.
The ceasefire followed Trump's diesel arrangement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, under which Russia would supply massive amounts of diesel to the United States. The deal drew pushback from Zelenskyy, who slammed it as a weak decision, and from seven U.S. senators who questioned its legality. The administration moved forward with a Treasury waiver to keep the arrangement alive.
Trump's position is that the deal puts American families first by easing fuel price pressures — and that Europe, which kept buying Russian energy throughout the war, has no standing to criticize him for doing the same.
The administration has also been turning up the pressure on Kyiv to stop striking Russian oil refineries, with reports that Ukraine was warned it could lose access to new U.S. weapons and intelligence-sharing if the refinery attacks continue. Trump has argued the strikes drive up diesel prices and hurt American farmers.
