President Donald Trump is heading to Youngstown, Ohio today for a midterm rally, with remarks set for 7:00 PM EDT at the Covelli Centre.
According to the White House's daily guidance for Monday, October 12, Trump departs the White House for Youngstown — both legs open press — and delivers remarks at 7:00 PM before returning to Washington. The GOP's event listing for the rally shows doors opening at 3:30 PM and the program beginning at 5:30 PM at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St. in Youngstown. Senator Jon Husted is expected to join the president on stage.
The trip comes weeks out from the midterm elections, and the White House is putting the president on the road to rally the base. Youngstown is familiar ground for Trump — he drew a massive crowd there in 2017, telling supporters the jobs were coming back. The Mahoning Valley has been a battleground ever since, and the administration sees Ohio as central to its midterm push.
Protesters are also expected outside the Covelli Centre, with local activist groups planning to gather during the rally. It is Indigenous Peoples' Day — still observed as Columbus Day in Ohio — and the holiday timing means bigger crowds on both sides.
The Youngstown stop caps a busy day for the administration. Trump started the morning with executive time at the White House, and today also marks the first day of Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary, with her first briefing set for Tuesday at 9:30 AM. The president is expected to use tonight's remarks to frame the midterms as a referendum on his agenda — and to make the case directly to the voters of the Valley.
