President Donald Trump took the stage in Dalton, Georgia, on Friday afternoon and put the 2024 murder of nursing student Laken Riley at the center of the Senate race, blaming Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff's immigration stance and urging voters to send Rep. Mike Collins to Washington.
Trump described Riley as "a beautiful 22-year-old nursing student" who was "attacked on the campus of the University of Georgia and viciously assaulted and murdered by an illegal alien member of Tren de Aragua." He said: "That monster was set loose by the cruel open-border policies of Jon Ossoff. He supported it. He wanted it. He wanted open borders. Who the hell wants open borders?"
"On November 3rd, Georgia needs to throw open borders Jon Ossoff out of office and elect Mike Collins to get the illegal alien gang members out of the country," Trump told the crowd at Dalton Municipal Airport, where he also rallied for Republican governor candidate Rick Jackson.
When protesters were escorted out of the stands to chants of "USA!", Trump called them "paid protesters" and added, "Far-left loser Jon Ossoff. See now, he probably paid them." On Iran, he told supporters, "That will be over very, very soon, and they will never have a nuclear weapon."
The rally comes as Georgians turn out in force. The secretary of state reported a record 188,667 in-person ballots on the first day of early voting, up about 40% from 2022, and nearly 529,000 ballots in the first three days. Ossoff holds a large fundraising lead and has led recent polls, making the president's push for Collins a key test for Republicans with 18 days to go.
