President Trump rallied supporters Saturday at Northern Kentucky University’s Truist Arena in Highland Heights, urging voters to elect Rep. Andy Barr to the U.S. Senate and Ed Gallrein to Congress. “In the past 17 months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted into the United States through our southern border,” Trump said, adding that his administration took “the worst border in American history” and made it “the strongest and most secure border in the history of our country.”
Trump, who took the stage around 2:20 p.m. ET, said “seventeen days from now the people of Kentucky are going to defeat the radical Democrats.” Barr faces Democrat Charles Booker for Sen. Mitch McConnell’s open seat. Gallrein, who beat Rep. Thomas Massie in the May primary, faces Democrat Melissa Strange in the 4th District.
Trump also touted new jobs, saying Ford is investing $2 billion in its Louisville Assembly Plant thanks to tariffs and GE Appliances announced a $1 billion expansion last month. He said “if the Republicans win, the Department of War will be investing $100 million” in drugmaker Antheia to revitalize “a gigantic drug manufacturing facility in Winchester, Kentucky.”
A young protester who interrupted the speech was escorted out of the arena. Trump called him a “paid” protester but told the crowd, “He’s a young kid. I don’t think we should — we shouldn’t ruin his life and press charges, right? Just let him go.”
Later in the speech, Trump declared, “America does not belong to those who hate it — America belongs to those who really, really love it.” Kentucky votes Nov. 3.
