President Donald Trump told a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, that Gov. Katie Hobbs "does the bidding of the cartels" and called her "a dumb person," as he campaigned for her Republican challenger, Rep. Andy Biggs.
Trump pointed to Hobbs's vetoes of a bill requiring local agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and of 18 crime measures. "She vetoed legislation that would have... broken the cartels and increased prison sentences for fentanyl dealers," he said. "She wouldn't sign it. And many of your children are dying."
"Your Governor, Katie Hobbs, does the bidding of the cartels. People say she's paid off by the cartels. I wouldn't be surprised," Trump said. He offered no evidence that cartels paid Hobbs.
He also warned that if Democrats regain power, they will "immediately reopen your borders, sell out Arizona to the cartels, raise your prices."
Hobbs answered on X: "The president can call me whatever names he wants. I'll keep putting Arizona first," and blamed tariffs and the Iran war for higher costs.
Early voting in Arizona runs through Oct. 30. A recent survey of 400 likely voters showed Hobbs leading Biggs by nearly 17 points.
