President Trump told supporters at his midterm rally in Highland Heights, Kentucky, on Saturday that the United States is cashing in on Venezuela. “You know how much money we’re taking out of Venezuela? Hundreds of billions of dollars,” Trump said, calling it one of the things he “never promised” but delivered.
The U.S. took control of Venezuela’s oil exports after capturing Nicolás Maduro in January. Under a January executive order, the revenue is held by the U.S. Treasury in a “custodial” capacity on behalf of Venezuela’s government, with the secretary of state directing how it is spent. Independent estimates are far below Trump’s figure: the Financial Times put sales at more than $13 billion this year, which Trump said in July was likely “even more than that.”
Trump also took aim at Canada. “We had Trudeau — not a good guy. Loser,” he said of Justin Trudeau, who left office in 2025. He said Canada’s current leader, Prime Minister Mark Carney, is “a nice guy, but he’s not nice when it comes to trade.”
On Iran, Trump recalled his “little excursion to the … beautiful Islamic Republic of Iran,” saying, “We beat the s--- out of them” and “knocked out their nuclear capacity.” He said Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” and told the crowd the war would end soon and gas prices would fall, the Associated Press reported.
He also warned voters about the midterms. “The last time the radical Democrats had power, they gave us the worst inflation in American history, the highest energy prices in American history,” he said. “If they win in the midterms, they will do it again.”
