President Donald Trump has set the date: Katie Zacharia will hold her first White House press briefing on Tuesday at 9:30 AM.
"I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M.," Trump stated.
Zacharia steps into one of the toughest jobs in Washington: speaking for the administration and fielding questions from a press corps that has been hostile to this White House from day one. She is wasting no time — term starts Monday, briefing room Tuesday morning.
The early date signals confidence. Rather than easing in behind closed doors, the administration is putting its new press secretary in front of the cameras within 24 hours of her start. It is a trial by fire, and the White House clearly believes she is ready for it.
The briefing room has been a battleground throughout Trump's presidency, with clashes over everything from crowd sizes to major policy rollouts. Zacharia's debut will be watched closely — by allies hoping for a steady hand and by critics looking for a stumble.
Her first test comes Tuesday at 9:30 AM. The cameras will be rolling.
