Senator Jon Ossoff launched door-to-door canvassing in Atlanta on Saturday with Pete Buttigieg, telling Georgia voters that President Donald Trump — who has made clear he believes Ossoff will not return to the Senate — was coming to their state that day "to wallow in his failure and disgrace."
Ossoff wrote on Saturday: "The crook president's coming back to Georgia today." At the rally he delivered the line in person, as Trump campaigned in Georgia the same day for the Republicans running to take his seat.
Ossoff also attacked the Justice Department over its raid on the Fulton County election office, telling the crowd: "They came to Congressman John Lewis's district!"
The Atlanta event launched the Democrats' door-to-door push in the final stretch before the November 3 midterms: Ossoff and Buttigieg addressed volunteers in Northwest Atlanta before the teams headed out to knock on doors. Ossoff is the only Democratic senator up for re-election in a state Trump won, and his campaign calls Georgia the most important Senate race in the country.
The race could decide which party controls the Senate. Barack Obama is reported to headline a Georgia rally with Ossoff next week, while Trump is putting his own weight behind the Republicans chasing the seat — both parties are flooding Georgia in the final days.
