Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks of the war on St. Petersburg overnight into Sunday, setting fires at the city's main oil terminal and killing one person, Russian officials said.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said fires broke out at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal in the city's port, the Ruchyi oil depot and industrial warehouses. He said one person was killed, five were hospitalized, and 12 apartment buildings and two houses were damaged.
Russia's Defence Ministry said its air defences shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight, Reuters reported. Leningrad Region Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said about 145 were downed over his region alone. He said debris damaged homes and 55 cars, cut power to about 20,000 people, and sent a woman and three children to hospital.
Internet company VK said drones attacked one of its data centres in the Leningrad region but that its services were still working. Online retailer Ozon said its St. Petersburg logistics centre caught fire and that all staff were evacuated unharmed. Pulkovo Airport halted flights for more than six hours, and about 50 flights were cancelled.
Ukraine's military had not commented by Sunday morning. Ukrainian drone maker Fire Point claimed its FP-1 drone hit the oil terminal, the Kyiv Independent reported. The extent of the damage could not be independently verified.
The strike came after President Trump signed an order on Friday suspending sanctions and tariffs on Russia's oil sector, and after Zelenskyy said Kyiv would resume strikes on Russian refineries.
