Rep. Beth Van Duyne is pushing new legislation aimed at cracking down on fraud in the H-1B visa program.
The H-1B Visa Fraud Crackdown Act would dramatically increase fines for employers who violate the rules — from $5,000 to $100,000 in some cases and from $35,000 to $250,000 in others.
It would also increase minimum bans for violators, with some potentially rising from 3 years to 10 years.
The legislation comes after an Inspector General field check in Dallas reportedly found a building linked to more than 500 approved H-1B petitions, with several offices appearing inactive — including locked doors and lights turned off.
