Vice President JD Vance says the Trump administration lives under constant pressure to deliver on the promises it made to American voters — and in a new interview, he set out to prove, item by item, that it is doing exactly that.
"We didn't just talk about closing the border — we actually did it," Vance said on The Sean Spicer Show. "We didn't just talk about getting opioid overdose deaths down — we actually did it. We didn't just talk about bringing trillions of dollars of new investment into the country — we actually did it."
The proof, Vance argued, is showing up in the places politicians used to fear most. At a recent town hall in Michigan, he said, the border did not come up at all — a stunning change from two years ago, when it was the number one or number two concern for most voters. American voters, he said, are impatient in a good way: "Like Donald Trump, their foot is constantly on the gas."
In the fuller answer — one the White House's Rapid Response 47 account urged the media to play in full — Vance widened the record: inflation is lower, house prices are lower, and rents are more affordable than three years ago. And President Trump, he said, has done more in 18 months than any other president has done in 10 years to reverse a 40-year bipartisan consensus of shipping American jobs overseas.
Vance did not pretend the work is finished. "There's still a lot more work to do," he said — and he turned that admission into the administration's closing argument for the midterms: "Don't elect the people who caused these problems — elect the Republicans who are working on these problems and solving them every day."
The interview, recorded at the White House for Episode 825 of Spicer's show and shared Friday by Rapid Response 47 and the White House, devotes a full segment to what its own chapter list calls "The Pressure to Deliver Real Results." It lands with the November 3 midterms just over two weeks away, and with Vance — the administration's fraud czar and its most relentless messenger — carrying the case that the Trump record is not a promise but a receipt.
Critics online were quick to mock the closing line, some joking that "don't elect the people who caused these problems" cuts both ways. But the exchange captures the choice both parties are now selling: Democrats will run against the cost of living and the Iran war; Republicans, if Vance has his way, will run on a border closed, overdose deaths falling, and investment pouring in. "We actually did it," he says. On November 3, voters grade the claim.
