A 32-year-old woman is fighting for her life after she was shot in the head on Thursday morning, October 22, in an apparent road-rage shooting in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighbourhood.
Police said the shooting happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of West 47th Street. The woman was riding as a passenger in a car when a gray car pulled up alongside the vehicle and someone inside opened fire, striking her in the head.
She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Fifteenth Ward Alderman Raymond Lopez confirmed the shooting was apparently the result of road rage. Lopez posted a warning to residents to be cautious of police activity around 47th Street and Western Avenue as the investigation shut down the area.
Witnesses identified the shooter’s vehicle as a gray four-door Toyota Scion with a rear bike rack. The car was last seen fleeing southbound on Western Avenue immediately after the shots were fired.
No one is in custody. Police said 9th District officers are reviewing all available camera footage in the area, and detectives are processing evidence and interviewing witnesses as the hunt for the Scion and the person who fired continues.
Police have not released the woman’s name and have not said what sparked the confrontation on the road before the gunfire. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Chicago Police 9th District or submit an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com or by calling 1-800-535-7867.
