The race was called on election night, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the 39-year-old Democrat, who will serve a second six-year term in the U.S. Senate. He was described as easily defeating his Republican challenger, with a wide early margin, while counting was still in progress when the race was called.
Ossoff was the only incumbent Senate Democrat defending a seat in a state President Donald Trump carried in 2024, by about two percentage points, making Georgia one of the Republicans’ few genuine pickup opportunities. Republicans went into the midterms holding a 53-47 Senate majority, and Democrats needed a net gain of four seats to take control, so holding Georgia keeps their path alive. The result means no Senate pickup for Republicans in Georgia, as the Democratic incumbent holds the seat.
Ossoff was first elected in the January 2021 runoff alongside Senator Raphael Warnock, and he is the first Democratic senator elected to a second full term in Georgia since 1990.
Ossoff raised about $126 million and led in the polls throughout the race, while Collins was backed by about $18 million in outside spending. Collins, 59, a Republican U.S. Representative, won the GOP nomination in June after a primary runoff and had President Trump’s backing.
Ossoff, widely seen as a potential 2028 presidential contender, has said he is not running for the White House in 2028 and vowed to serve a full six-year term. No final vote percentages or vote totals are stated here, as counting was still in progress when results were called.
