Elon Musk has blasted James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Texas, over a resurfaced video in which Talarico invokes Jesus while speaking about transgender children. In a post on X on Monday, October 26, Musk quote-posted the video and warned that Talarico would vote to take away people's children and transition them.
In the clip, from a 2023 interfaith speech, Talarico asks: "What would Jesus do if he visited the Texas legislature? I think he would tell us: 'Blessed are the trans children who are bullied.'"
The clip resurfaced over the weekend, first shared by the LoneStar_PAC account on Sunday, October 25, and then posted by the Daily Wire on Monday. Musk quote-posted the Daily Wire's video on Monday afternoon. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller also reacted to the clip on Sunday, calling Talarico "deeply, disturbingly obsessed with transing children."
Talarico, a Texas state representative, is running against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the Senate seat in the November 3 midterm elections. Musk has poured money into the race behind Paxton, including a reported $158 million donation to the Senate Leadership Fund super PAC in September and $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, both of which back Paxton.
Talarico has pushed back on the attacks, accusing Musk of trying to buy the seat. At a rally last week he said: "Elon Musk is trying to buy Texas. But Texas is not for sale."
