Girl, 17, charged as adult after stabbing and SWAT standoff — Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — October 29

Just after 2:00 a.m. on October 29, 2026, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 1 officers responded to a stabbing in the 900 block of Suismon Street in the city's East Allegheny neighborhood, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety. First responders found a woman who had been stabbed in the stomach, and she was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition, WPXI reported. Police said the 17-year-old suspect barricaded herself inside the home. For hours, SWAT officers, the drone unit and negotiators were at the scene trying to get her to come out, and she was taken into custody just after 5 a.m. Pittsburgh police said the teen would be charged as an adult and was facing an aggravated assault charge. In follow-up reporting, WPXI said that, according to the criminal complaint, the arrested teen is 17-year-old Daynia Ayers of Steubenville, Ohio, and that she is behind bars, charged as an adult. Channel 11 also learned the incident happened in a short-term rental, just blocks from the site of a 2022 mass shooting at another short-term rental in the same neighborhood, which has renewed local discussion about regulating short-term rentals. No motive for the stabbing has been released, and the victim has not been publicly identified. We are following this case and will update it again as soon as new information comes.
