Mexican TV host arrested after nearly five years on the run from a huge fraud case — Miami, Florida — October 30
Mexican television host Inés Gómez Mont was arrested in Miami, Florida, on Friday, October 30, 2026, ending nearly five years as a fugitive from Mexican justice. Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR) confirmed the arrest, saying it followed an exchange of information with the United States government, and that Gómez Mont is held under an outstanding Mexican arrest warrant for alleged tax fraud. She and her husband, lawyer Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, have been wanted since September 2021 in an investigation into an alleged network of companies that simulated operations around federal contracts — a case that also carries allegations of money laundering, organised crime and embezzlement, and centres on roughly 2.95 billion pesos in contracts with the Secretariat of the Interior. The arrest came weeks after Interpol cancelled the couple's red notices in September 2026, a decision President Claudia Sheinbaum publicly questioned; Mexican officials note the cancellation did not nullify the Mexican warrants. Álvarez Puga was detained by U.S. immigration authorities in September 2025 and later released on bond. Gómez Mont has denied the accusations. The next step is expected to be Mexico's formal extradition process in U.S. court. We are following this case and will update it again as soon as new information comes.

Update #2 — Gómez Mont files habeas petition; judge orders ICE to justify her detention by November 4
Lawyers for Inés Gómez Mont filed a habeas corpus petition on Saturday, October 31, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, seeking her release from immigration detention, together with an emergency motion to stop her being transferred to another detention centre. Judge Jeffrey Kuntz denied an immediate stay and ordered ICE and the other authorities to submit their justification for keeping her in custody by Wednesday, November 4, at the latest. She is held at the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach, and her detention appears to rest on her no longer having a visa or permit to be in the United States. The filing includes medical reports concerning one of her daughters. The U.S. Department of Justice has not yet begun extradition proceedings, despite Mexico's request. We are following this case and will update it again as soon as new information comes. -
